On a mission to put on for the city that made him, Jayson Cash is a rapper and songwriter from Carson, California. Turning his hometown pride into fuel to keep moving forward, Cash is no stranger to weaving deeply personal stories into his music. Heavily influenced by the West Coast, Cash balances gaining wisdom through his own first-hand experiences with learning from the example set by the legends who helped pave the way before him such as Suga Free, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and the late Kobe Bryant. While keeping a close eye on the blueprint laid out by these homegrown pioneers, Cash implements that same shared passion into all that he does, making sure he's representing for the city of Carson as authentically as possible. As a storyteller whose medium of choice is music, Cash doubles as a philosopher, motivational life coach and someone to turn to for unfiltered advice, drawing from what he's been through to spit meaningful bars and capture the many facets that make up the neighborhood he grew up in.
As a kid, Cash's musical upbringing radiated around the church, with his grandfather's ministry encouraging him to participate in the youth choir. From watching his father play the guitar and bass to competing with his older brother over who got to play drums first, Cash's childhood was soundtracked by soulful sounds, whether created in community together through the church or by listening to pivotal acts such as Stevie Wonder, Ohio Players and Earth Wind & Fire. As Cash entered his teenage years, he naturally gravitated towards hip-hop, particularly resonating with Lil Bow Wow's career trajectory and seeing firsthand how age doesn't limit one's potential. With his older brother's know-how as a producer and beatmaker serving as motivation, Cash began finding his footing in rap. Curiously enough, his brother's tough love and harsh criticism of his music ended up being a blessing in disguise, encouraging Cash to devote himself to perfecting the craft and putting in the hours necessary to develop his voice.
While gearing up to drop his first independent release, Cash's world came to a halt in December 2017 when he was tragically shot three times as a result of passing by a gang initiation gone horribly wrong. Although growing up in an area where gang activity and gun violence impacts far too many lives, nothing prepares a person for being on the receiving end of such life-altering trauma. For Cash, his unwavering faith and relentless drive played a crucial role in his road to recovery, from dropping a freestyle while in his hospital bed to relearning how to walk in order to make his dreams a reality. In the time since, Cash has embraced his calling as a rapper with full force, turning to music both as a powerful form of self-expression and a vehicle for his purpose-driven aim to make a tangible impact.
Intentional with his every move as an artist, Cash recently inked a deal with Atlantic Records and is currently gearing up to release a series of singles this summer ahead of his long-awaited debut project. Best known for delivering top-tier bars, Cash's dynamism as a recording artist brings variety to his sound, encompassing a range of flows, styles and melodies into his growing catalog of work, all while staying true to his roots.
