CuhDeeJah Introduces Herself With Debut Album It’s CuhDeeJah

CuhDeeJah is not just stepping into her debut album era — she is defining it on her own terms.

Born in Los Angeles and raised in a Sierra Leonean household, CuhDeeJah represents a unique blend of West Coast confidence, African roots, feminine luxury, and boss-girl energy. As a mother, businesswoman, philanthropist, and recording artist, she creates music that feels fun, empowering, cultural, and intentional. Her sound lives somewhere between hip-hop, Afro-fusion, and soft-girl confidence, giving listeners a full picture of who she is and where she comes from.

With the release of her first full-length album, It’s CuhDeeJah, she finally gets to introduce herself without compromise.

“I’m honestly ecstatic,” she says when speaking on the project. “I have so many emotions when it comes to my project. I’ve been doing music for a few years now and I’ve put out several records but nothing compares to this project. It’s so me.”

For CuhDeeJah, the title It’s CuhDeeJah is more than a name. It represents her finally finding her musical identity. For years, she felt pulled between two worlds — her love for rap and hip-hop, and her love for Afrobeat and African cultural sounds. Instead of choosing one lane, she created her own.

“I kept being told I have to focus on conquering one genre at a time,” she explains. “With It’s CuhDeeJah, I found a way to mesh both genres and showcase my versatility.”

The album opens with “Sierra Leone,” a record that immediately sets the tone for the project. CuhDeeJah’s connection to Sierra Leone runs deep. Raised in an African household, music was always part of her lifestyle. Her brother was a DJ, family gatherings were filled with music, and her mother took her to Sierra Leone when she was 15 years old — a trip that changed her perspective forever.

“I fell in love with the country at a very young age,” she says. “Being Sierra Leonean has really molded me into who I am today. Keeps me humble, grounded and very open minded.”

That pride shows up all throughout the album. On records like “Afamame” and “Wahala,” CuhDeeJah brings cultural language and meaning into the music. “Afamame” means “my people” in Temne, one of the tribes connected to her mother’s background. The song was born in the studio after her producer DeCarlo suggested she say “my people” in Swahili. CuhDeeJah respected the idea, but wanted to represent her actual roots.

“I called my mom and said, how do you say ‘my people’ in Temne?” she says. “And that’s how Afamame was born.”

Her mother can even be heard in the intro of the record, making the song even more personal.

“Wahala,” on the other hand, taps into a word widely understood across the continent as meaning “problem.” But CuhDeeJah flips the meaning into a vibe. The message is simple: life is too good to be stressed out. Move, groove, and don’t live with problems.

One of the most personal records on the album is “The Baddest.” For CuhDeeJah, being “the baddest” is not just about looks. It is about confidence, softness, self-esteem, presence, and power. She also goes by “SL’s Baddest,” short for Sierra Leone’s Baddest, a title she claimed after performing in Sierra Leone and hearing someone in the crowd repeatedly yell “Baddest.”

“Whether people think it’s for my looks, for my rap flow, or simply because I’m a boss, I claim that title,” she says.

That same confidence carries into “Westside,” a feel-good record that connects every part of her identity. She was born on the West Coast, raised in West L.A., comes from West Africa, and when she is in Sierra Leone, she says she is always on the west side. To her, Westside represents comfort, class, safety, culture, and a vibe — whether she is in Los Angeles or Freetown.

The album also features collaborations that help expand the world of the project. Jxshy and Blessing appear on “Selfish,” Smoov and Blessing appear on “Moko,” and Sierra Leonean legend Emmerson joins her on the title track, “It’s CuhDeeJah.”

Jxshy and Blessing were discovered by CuhDeeJah during a talent show she hosted in Freetown, sponsored by Wynn Records. She describes them as true grinders who can sing, write, dance, play instruments, and stay in the studio for days at a time.

“They’re like my little brother and sister now,” she says. “They are so grateful and that’s what I love about them the most.”

Smoov, who is Liberian, helped bring “Moko” to life from scratch in the studio. The record centers around money, something CuhDeeJah naturally wanted to talk about. “Moko” means money in Smoov’s local language. As for Emmerson, collaborating with him was a major moment.

“He’s a legend in my country,” she says. “To have a song out with him was an honor and really just solidified the point I was trying to make with this project.”

Making a full body of work taught CuhDeeJah lessons that singles never could. The album reminded her that completion matters, consistency matters, and overthinking can block the spirit of the music.

“You can really just have fun and do whatever the fuck you want to,” she says. “As long as you have a solid body of work, put it out.”

The creative direction behind It’s CuhDeeJah was also very hands-on. From the music to the visuals to the overall presentation, CuhDeeJah made sure the project reflected her vision. She credits her team for backing her, while also making it clear that the world being presented is fully hers.

“Everything about my project is ALL me,” she says. “CuhDeeJah does what CuhDeeJah wants.”

She also gives credit to Director SA for helping bring the music to life visually, with several visuals shot in Nigeria.

By the time listeners reach the end of the 10-song project, CuhDeeJah hopes they understand how special this album is to her. It pushed her out of her comfort zone, gave her a chance to prove she can do hip-hop and Afrobeat at the same time, and allowed her to paint a clear picture of who she really is.

Now that her debut album is out, CuhDeeJah is already thinking about the next chapter. She is hoping to release another project within the next year, preparing for motherhood again this October, and continuing to perform. Her next show is set for Seattle in December, and she is looking forward to more collaborations, more music, and more growth.

Through it all, she remains grateful — to Wynn Records, her friends, her family, her supporters, and everyone who helped her along the way.

With It’s CuhDeeJah, she is not just releasing music. She is claiming her lane, honoring her roots, and stepping forward as the Princess of Wynn Records and SL’s Baddest.
