From Crenshaw to Cal State Fullerton: Ahniah Singleton Is Betting on Herself and Building a Bigger Future
Los Angeles student-athlete Ahniah Singleton overcame self-doubt, became a First Team All-City basketball player and CIF champion at Crenshaw High School, and is now beginning her college journey at Cal State Fullerton with dreams of becoming a sports medicine physician.
At just 18 years old, Los Angeles native Ahniah Singleton is already learning one of the biggest lessons that comes with chasing something bigger: sometimes the toughest opponent you have to beat is the doubt within yourself.
Ahniah graduated from Crenshaw High School in June 2026, closing a chapter filled with basketball, track, championships, playoff runs and personal growth. Now, she's preparing for an entirely different challenge as she heads to California State University, Fullerton, where she'll major in Kinesiology while working toward her ultimate goal of becoming a sports medicine physician.
For Ahniah, this next chapter isn't simply about getting a college degree.
It's about building a future, breaking generational cycles and eventually using her success to create opportunities for the people coming behind her.
The Journey: Growing Up Through Sports in Los Angeles
Ahniah has been involved in sports for as long as she can remember, but during her years at Crenshaw High School, basketball became one of the places where her competitive spirit truly showed.
“I’ve been playing sports for as long as I can remember. In high school I played basketball, earned First Team All City honors my freshman, sophomore, and senior years, won CIF championships, and made deep playoff runs every season.”
Her athletic ability wasn't limited to the basketball court.
Ahniah also competed in track.
“I also ran track, and even though it wasn’t my first sport I still stood out and continued to compete at a high level.”
Those accomplishments tell one side of her story.
The internal battles tell another.
When asked about the accomplishment she's most proud of, Ahniah didn't immediately point toward a championship, an award or an All-City selection.
She pointed toward overcoming self-doubt.
“One accomplishment I’m most proud of is overcoming self doubt. There were times I questioned myself and wanted to give up, not just in sports but in school too. But I kept pushing forward, gave everything my best effort and because of that I grew as a person and became stronger both in the classroom and as an athlete.”
That growth is now following her beyond Crenshaw.
The Next Chapter: Cal State Fullerton
This fall, Ahniah will attend California State University, Fullerton, where she'll begin studying Kinesiology.
Her decision wasn't random.
“I chose Cal State Fullerton because it checked all the boxes for me. I’ll be majoring in Kinesiology, and CSUF has great programs that align with my goals in the medical field. On top of that I really loved the campus and knew it was the right place for me.”
Ahniah already has a long-term vision for where she wants that education to take her.
Her goal is to become a sports medicine physician, combining two worlds that have played major roles in her life: athletics and health.
“I chose to study Kinesiology because I want to become a sports medicine physician. This major will help me build a strong foundation for my future career while allowing me to continue exploring my passion for the human body, health and athletic performance.”
College will also mean entering unfamiliar territory.
And instead of running away from that, she's looking forward to it.
“What I’m looking forward to most about starting college is stepping outside of my comfort zone, meeting new people, and creating new experiences. I’m also excited to learn new things, grow academically, and continue becoming the best version of myself.”
She's also entering college with specific expectations for herself.
“One of the biggest goals I’ve set for myself over the next four years is to stay consistent, avoid procrastination, and continue believing in myself. I want to challenge myself academically, personally, and professionally while making the most out of my college experience.”
The Student-Athlete Mindset
There are lessons learned through sports that don't show up on a stat sheet.
For Ahniah, years of competition taught her discipline, teamwork, commitment and how to continue working when things become uncomfortable.
“Sports have taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to stay committed even when things get difficult. Being an athlete has helped me learn how to handle challenges, work toward my goals, and keep pushing myself, which are lessons I’ll carry with me beyond sports and into college and my future career.”
Her definition of discipline is simple, but powerful.
“To me, discipline means staying committed even when things get hard or when motivation isn’t always there. It’s about showing up, putting in the work, and holding yourself accountable because you know your goals require consistency and dedication.”
That mindset became especially important during difficult periods of her high school journey.
Self-doubt remained one of her biggest obstacles.
But Ahniah was also carrying another responsibility: being an example for the younger people watching her.
“The biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome is learning to believe in myself. There were moments when I doubted my abilities and questioned if I was good enough, but I learned how to push through those thoughts and keep going. Being the oldest sibling of three younger siblings also taught me the importance of being a role model and setting an example. Overcoming those challenges helped me grow into a stronger person, student, and athlete.”
Her senior year tested that mentality.
There were moments when quitting felt like an option.
Her vision for the future wouldn't allow it.
“There have definitely been moments where I wanted to quit. My senior year was especially challenging, but what kept me going was the expectations I have for myself and the future I’m working toward. I have a mindset of wanting to break generational cycles and create a better path for myself and my family, and that motivation kept me pushing forward.”
Building a Career in Sports Medicine
Ahniah isn't approaching college without knowing where she wants to go.
After completing her undergraduate education, she hopes to continue on the path toward becoming a sports medicine physician.
“After college I hope to become a sports medicine physician. I want to combine my passion for athletics with my interest in the human body to help athletes recover, perform at their best, and continue doing what they love.”
But her vision extends beyond her own career.
Eventually, Ahniah wants to use what she builds to give younger athletes access to resources and opportunities.
“I plan to use my degree to make an impact by helping others through sports medicine. I want to support athletes by helping them take care of their bodies, overcome challenges, and reach their full potential. I also hope to create nonprofit organizations that provide resources and opportunities for youth teams, helping younger athletes have the support they need to succeed.”
That's also connected to the legacy she hopes to leave.
“The legacy I want to leave is one of hard work, resilience, and giving back. I want people to remember me as someone who pushed through challenges, believed in herself, and used her success to create opportunities for others. Whether it’s through sports, my career, or my community I want my impact to reach beyond myself.”
Why Ahniah Is Asking the Community for Support
Starting college also brings a reality many students and families face: the financial cost of higher education.
A conversation with her mother ultimately inspired Ahniah to launch a GoFundMe campaign to help cover some of the expenses associated with beginning her college journey.
“What inspired me to create a GoFundMe was a conversation with my mom about the challenges of paying for college. I knew this next chapter would be a big step for me, and without the financial support needed, it could become difficult. I wanted to create an opportunity for people who believe in my journey to support me as I work toward my goals and pursue my education.”
Money raised through the campaign will help with practical college expenses, including on-campus housing, books, transportation and school supplies.
“The donations will help support my college journey by helping with expenses such as on-campus housing, books, transportation, and other supplies I’ll need to be successful. Having that support will allow me to focus more on my education, personal growth, and making the most out of my experience at Cal State Fullerton.”
For Ahniah, community support means more than the dollar amount attached to a donation.
It means knowing people believe she can accomplish what she's setting out to do.
“The community supporting me would mean the world to me. I’ve always dreamed of going to college, and having people believe in my journey would motivate me even more to keep pushing forward. I would be grateful for the opportunity to make my community proud and show that their support helped me get closer to achieving my goals.”
And supporting the campaign doesn't necessarily require making a donation.
Sharing her story matters too.
“People can support me by sharing my GoFundMe and helping spread my story to others. Every share helps me reach more people who may be able to support my journey and my goal of succeeding in college.”
The Woman Who Inspired Her
Behind Ahniah's drive is a woman who has helped shape how she views independence, perseverance and responsibility: her mother.
“The person who has inspired me the most is my mom. She is a single mother of five daughters, and she has taught us the importance of independence, hard work, and staying true to ourselves. She has always kept it real with us and supported me in everything I’ve wanted to pursue. I will always appreciate her for pushing me to become the person I want to be.”
Those lessons have helped Ahniah develop a level of independence she plans to carry onto the Cal State Fullerton campus.
“One lesson I’ve learned is the importance of being independent and learning how to rely on myself. Having the ability to figure things out, take responsibility, and push through challenges on my own has helped me grow. I’ll carry that mindset with me into college as I continue to learn and build my future.”
If she could go back and speak to a younger version of herself, the message would come directly from the experiences that got her here.
“I would tell my younger self to believe in yourself and never let self-doubt stop you. Keep working hard, trust the process, and don’t be afraid of challenges because they’re helping you grow. Everything you’re working for will be worth it in the end.”

What “To Reach All Profits” Means to Ahniah Singleton
At trapLA, To Reach All Profits has always represented something bigger than simply making money.
So we asked Ahniah what the phrase means to her.
Her answer fits perfectly with the journey she's beginning.
“To me ‘To Reach All Profits’ means reaching your full potential in every area of life. It’s not just about money but about growth, success, creating opportunities, and becoming the best version of yourself.”
And for another young person chasing a dream—whether that's college, sports, music, entrepreneurship or something completely different—Ahniah's advice comes back to the same mentality that carried her through Crenshaw.
“My advice would be to stay consistent and believe in yourself, and don’t worry about anyone else’s journey but your own. Stay focused and don’t let setbacks stop you from chasing your dreams.”
